Welcome to Art and Design!
There are two Art and Design teachers in the department. We are Ann Archer (CL – Creative and Aesthetic) and Julie Philip.
The art department is a fabulous space to work in. We have 3 large classrooms and plenty of room to display all kinds of art work and host various events.
Students in S1 – S3 engage in a broad and general Art and Design education. This involves gaining skills in drawing and painting and exploring media such as mod roc and papier mache. Students experience various exciting units such as Gaudi inspired goblet making or mural painting. They also learn about artists and designers and how to respond to their work.
Senior students (S4-6) are completing units of work that will gain them SQA qualifications in Art and Design. They will be entered for the new National exams. We also have students who gain Highers and Advanced Highers in Art and Design.
Within the department we also teach two Skills for Work courses at Intermediate 2 level. These are Retailing and Creative Industries.
Retail students are just about to begin their new placements at Fort Kinnaird. They will attend on Tuesday afternoons this year and will work in a variety of stores including New Look, Trespass and the Body Shop.
Creative Industries students are currently designing a large piece for the library resource centre and this year they will be improving their art and design skills and learning more about the types of creative areas they may wish to go into after school.
